Nosara, Costa Rica is a special place where the beauty and power of the ocean are intertwined with the lives of our local community and tourists. As such, we were all deeply moved and shaken by recent drownings on our beaches. These tragic events pushed a passionate group of Nosara community members to come together in 2020 to form Nosara Ocean Safety (NOS) and begin the journey of providing safer beaches for all.
OUR MISSION
Nosara Ocean Safety believes that everyone who enjoys the ocean deserves to do so safely. This is why we are dedicated to providing life-saving education and training to protect everyone who swims and surfs off of our beaches. We aim to promote responsible ocean practices, and inspire a deep respect for the sea among local people and guests.
WHO WE ARE
Nosara Ocean Safety is a non-profit organization that consists of a team of passionate ocean lovers and safety advocates driven by a single goal: to protect the people of Nosara and visitors from the potential dangers of the sea. Our team consists of lifeguards, first responders, SurfGuards, beach watchers, and deeply invested community members. In order to engage and empower our local community, all operational positions are held by local Costa Ricans who also retain a majority on our Board of Directors.
THE WORK
Education is the key to preventing accidents. Nosara Ocean Safety offers the following Programs and Trainings to our community and guests:
